He has spearheaded the development of new codes of practice and path-breaking bridge technologies suited to Indian conditions. These include pioneering work in the field of Segmental construction, Integral construction, Accelerated Bridge Construction, Long span bridges and Structures for Metro (both viaducts and underground). His structures have been described as highly creative, futuristic, aesthetic, environmentally sensitive and innovative.

Amongst the many Awards and Honours, he is the Recipient of Distinguished Alumnus Award of IIT Roorkee (2018), UKIERI Award for Outstanding Concrete Technologist (2019), Honorary Fellow, Indian Concrete Institute, Its Past President (2003-2005 ), Recipient of its Lifetime Achievement Award (2003), and Outstanding Concrete Technologist Award (2014 ). He is Member, National Committee of Civil Engineering, Institution of Engineers (India), Past President, Indian Association of Structural Engineers (2015-16) and President, Indian Society for Wind Engineering. Under the AICTE program Indian National Academy of Engineering appointed him Distinguished Visiting Professor at IITs @ Kanpur, Roorkee & Gandhinagar (2005-2015). Currently he is continuing as Guest Professor IIT Gandhinagar (2017-2021).
